Tress had his start in college, he started his season with the Oklahoma football team, when he attended the Oklahoma University. He played 53 games in the seasons between 2009 and 2012, when he averaged 44.0 yards per punt with a career long of 85.
He switched to a punter after unsuccessful stint at kicker. He signed professionally with the Chicago bears as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He waived the bears after losing out to rookie Pat O’Donnell in 2014.
In August 2014, Tress started his journey with the Washington Redskins. He recorded an average of 45.3 yards out of four punts in his first preseason with the team. By this, he becomes the starting punter of the team after Robert Malone.
